Membrane Roll Stock: Types, Characteristics, and Applications

Opting for membrane roll stock allows you several advantages in your laboratory work. Membrane roll stock comes in several different materials to fit all of your applications and can be cut to the exact size needed for you and your team’s work. Having membrane roll stock on hand allows you and your team flexibility and can save you time and money.

What materials does membrane roll stock come in? And how can it help you and your team with your applications? We will explore everything you need to know about membrane roll stock on this page.

All About Membrane Roll Stock

Here at Tisch Scientific we offer a wide variety of membrane roll stock to fit all of your needs.

Polypropylene Membrane

Polypropylene membrane is made of pure hydrocarbon material, this allows it to be safely disposed of. A polypropylene membrane does not need to be pre-wet for application. This membrane is suitable for various aqueous and organic solvent filtration applications.

PTFE Membrane

PTFE stands for Polytetrafluoroethylene. These membranes are highly stable and chemically inert. They are also hydrophobic which makes them ideal for HPLC analysis. This membrane can handle temperatures up to 120 degrees celsius. This filter is recommended in corrosive and aggressive solvents and fluids in HPLC analysis.

Nylon Membrane

Nylon membrane is a strong and resilient choice that is ideal in circumstances where other membranes were difficult to handle. Nylon membranes are hydrophilic. Nylon membranes are also ideal in situations where a high temperature is being worked with. Nylon can handle temperatures of 180 degrees celsius. They are ideal in industries concerned with filtration of aqueous and organic phases, microbiological media, tissue culture media, buffers and vacuum degassing.

Glass Fiber Membrane

Glass fiber membranes are ideal for applications that require a high dirt loading capacity. They are hydrophilic. They have great compatibility with organic solvents and strong acids. They can handle the vicious solutions that tend to clog other membrane filters. These filters are widely used in environmental, biotechnology, food and beverage industries, and agriculture.

PVDF Membrane

PVDF membrane, or polyvinylidene fluoride, is a microporous membrane commonly used for particulate removal. These filters are naturally hydrophobic and so they do not dampen with fluids. They boast chemical compatibility, high temperature resistance, and a low starting resistance. These are ideal filters for offshore oil, plumbing, and chemical process industries.

MCE Membrane

MCE membrane, or mixed cellulose ester, is a membrane composed of both cellulose acetate and cellulose nitrate. These are commonly used in the microdialysis of proteins, DNA, and air particle monitoring.
