Membrane Filtration 101: Burst Pressure

When working with a membrane filter it is important to consider burst pressure. But, what is burst pressure?

Burst pressure is the pressure that a membrane or filter device will rupture. Knowing the burst pressure point or burst failure point will save you, and your team, time and money and most importantly protect you against personal injury.

Using Burst Pressure To Choose the Right Membrane

There are ways to ensure you have the correct membrane for the job. We have a helpful guide to ensure the filter media is compatible with the demands of your application. If using a syringe generally one would be safe within the following pressures:

  • 20 mL, 80 psi
  • 10 mL, 140 psi
  • 5 mL, 180 psi
  • 3 mL, 200 psi
  • 1 mL, 250 psi

It is important to take all necessary safety precautions and to ensure you know the exact membrane burst pressure.
